BURY managed to end their losing streak on the road but, away to Blackpool side near the bottom of the table, you would have expected them to do that.

The fans took some great support over to Blackpool on Good Friday and at least the team got a point to stop the rot. That’s not a bad thing, but it’s not a win.

Bury are safe and they can’t challenge for the play-offs so, unfortunately, they don’t seem to have a lot to play for now. The season’s petering out, it’s losing a bit of shine, and the fans can see that.

The Gillingham defeat was disappointing given how good the team’s form has been at home.

It makes you look at Bury’s start to the season. Thank goodness they got off to the start that they did, otherwise they could be in trouble near the bottom now.

There are a lot of things that need to be done for next season. There has to be more stability at the club.

It’s not like they’ve had a squad of just 18 players all season. They started to get injuries and suspensions but they’ve always had the backing to bring players in on loan.

They’ve had the squad, they just haven’t got them to gel.

Danny Mayor is an example. He was playing so well early in the season and there were a lot of people interested in him, but since then he’s gone off the boil.

He should be Bury’s star player, he has the potential to play at a higher level than League One if he plays well consistently.

And yes, he got back on the scoresheet at Blackpool, but he should be winning games for Bury.

He’s not a young lad any more. But it’s not necessarily his fault, you have to manage him properly too.

Bury should be getting every ounce of potential out of him – and that goes for a few of the players in that squad.

It’s up to the players to make sure they have a positive end to the season now. There’s got to be a big push for next season.

The club has been talking about doing things off the field to build some enthusiasm amongst the supporters heading into the summer but it’s got to happen on the field. If the fans see that then there’s more chance of them coming back.

The Shakers now face top of the league but Burton have wobbled a bit recently. People will still expect a home win but Bury should go there with the attitude that they have nothing to lose and try to mix things up a bit.
