RYAN Lowe looks set for the exit door at Gigg Lane despite scoring his 200th career goal in Bury's 3-1 defeat at home to Millwall on Saturday.

The 37-year-old striker is out of contract in the summer and has yet to be offered an extension to his deal.

It now seems likely Lowe will leave in the summer, and Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis claims to have a 'gentleman's agreement' to take the forward to Gresty Road.

The Liverpudlian told the Bury Times that he was unsure about his future but he will be assessing his options once the football season concludes next week.

“I don't know (if I'll be at Bury next year),” Lowe said. “I'll leave that to the hierarchy. My contract finishes at the end of the season.

“It's one of those, I've got to keep my options open as I'm playing for a contract basically.

“Football is football, sometimes you have to move on and sometimes you stay.

“Whatever comes my way I'll have to sit down with my family and take the options, but I'm not worried about that just yet, I'm just worried about playing as many games as I can and helping the team win.”

Lowe struggled for fitness in the early part of the season but after proving himself with a loan spell at Crewe the striker rejoined David Flitcroft's side in January and has since scored four goals.

The forward dedicated his latest strike to the Bury supporters and expressed his delight at scoring his 200th goal in front of the home crowd.

He said: “On a personal point of view, it's a great achievement, 68 goals I've scored for Bury.

“I'm privileged to have played for the club and to score that many goals and to be known locally as a bit of a hero to the fans, so I credit them, that 200th goal's for them.

“I was brushing it off and trying to not let it affect me and then when it comes you relish it.

“It's a great achievement but it's not something I set out to do. I set out to win and score and be the player I am and fortunately for me it's 200 not out.”

Despite being 37 years old, Lowe has no thoughts of hanging his boots up any time soon, although he has been coaching some of the Shakers' highly-rated young strikers.

He added: “Obviously I still want to play for as long as I can and I've done my coaching badges, but I'm not a case of wanting to go and do a load of coaching because I'm wanting to concentrate on playing.

“I was speaking to one of the younger lads Nathan (Bourne), I took him and young Rob (Harker) out last Thursday and did a bit of finishing with them and that's what it was like – it was about crosses into the box and just connecting with it.”

Meanwhile, Bourne and Harker were both part of the Bury under-18s squad which drew 1-1 with Wigan Athletic on Tuesday in what could turn out to be a title decider at the top of the Football League North West Youth Alliance.

The result means Wigan now have the chance to stop the Shakers clinching back-to-back titles as they sit one point behind league-leaders Bury with a game in hand.
