BURY manager David Flitcroft was happy with his side's performance against Blackpool despite conceding a last-minute equaliser.

After hitting the woodwork in the first half, Kelvin Etuhu opened the scoring at the start of the second period.

But in the last minute Brad Potts broke through the Shakers defence to slot the ball past the helpless Ben Williams.

The Bury boss continued to rotate his squad as 17 players were given game time, including former Shrewsbury midfielder Jordan Clark who played the second half as a trialist.

The Shakers' pre-season programme is now complete and Flitcroft will turn all of his attention towards the season opener against Charlton on Saturday.

“It's a good run out,” Flitcroft said after the game. "I think night and day we were much more aggressive in our approach the second half.

"It's better than any training session you can put on. We've learned a lot about what we have been working on.

"We didn't do so well first half but second half when we were aggressive and on the front foot - it looked right and I was pleased.

"I'm happy with quite a lot of the aspects but disappointed with the end goal. We really wanted the clean sheet today.

“We got through the 90 minutes and we are through the pre-season games. The games behind closed doors have been a real success and I'm delighted to be at the end of it to start planning for Charlton.”

Williams was forced into a couple of routine saves during the scrappy opening period to deny Jim McAlister and Mark Yeates, and Bury's first chance fell to Tom Pope who fizzed a volley across goal and wide.

On the stroke of half time Etuhu drove a shot against the inside of the post after good interplay with target man Pope.

And five minutes after the restart Etuhu put the Shakers ahead. After picking up a loose ball 25-yards out, the midfielder drove into the box before striking a left-footed low drive across goal into the bottom corner.

As usual in pre-season encounters, an array of substitutes were used by both sides late on which disrupted the match flow.

Bury seemed content with seeing the game out but a lapse in concentration allowed Potts the freedom of goal and he kept his cool to steal a draw for the hosts on the 90th minute.

Former Wanderer Neil Danns, Andrew Tutte and Leon Barnett were all absent from the game and Flitcroft confirmed afterwards they were rested as precautionary measures.

He said: “We felt that Danns has done one or two training sessions too much and it was just a case of pulling him out of this one and just looking after him a little bit.

“Tutte played 90 minutes on Thursday and we didn't want to stretch him for todays game.

“Leon Barnett, we got him late so he is probably not conditioned to the rest (of the squad). He is probably two-and-a-half to three weeks behind the rest of the lads, so again we are just giving him a mini pre-season to make sure he is up to that level.”
