BURY defender Nathan Cameron has put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension at Gigg Lane.

The 24-year-old centre-back had 11 months left on his existing deal but is now contracted to the Shakers until 2019.

Despite being relieved of his captaincy duties this season, the former Coventry player was the stand-out performer at the heart of the defence in the opening four fixtures before missing Saturday's match with a knee injury.

“It is something we have been working on for a few weeks,” said manager David Flitcroft.

“We are delighted with his form. I think he has been outstanding every game he has played.

“We have been working on it for quite a while and got it over the line on Friday so I'm delighted he has put pen to paper.

“It is a positive because with his form, his partnership with Antony Kay and the way he has come back from injury it is good news.”
