BURY must face a replay at Wimbledon after they threw away a two goal lead to draw 2-2 in the FA Cup first round.

Hallam Hope scored two goals in as many first-half minutes as Bury raced into a 2-0 lead. The Shakers looked much improved on recent weeks and could have taken a greater lead into the break had it not been for a couple of fine James Shea saves.

But the Dons drew level after the break as strikes from Lyle Taylor and Tom Elliott mean the Shakers must now make two trips to The Cherry Red Records Stadium this month.

David Flitcroft made two changes from the defeat to Northampton last weekend. Zeli Ismail returned to the starting line up in place of the suspended Danny Mayor, while Niall Maher dropped to the bench – Hope his replacement.

Bury's patched-up defence saw Neil Danns slot into right-back while Tom Soares was deployed at centre-back.

The Shakers started the game on the front foot as James Vaughan fired over acrobatically before Hope stung the palms of Shea with a fierce drive from the edge of the box.

Hope dragged another shot wide of the far post moments later before Mellis was denied by a fine Shea save.

The opening goal arrived in the 28th minute when Hope produced a 15-yard exquisite lob that took an age to drop in behind the keeper.

Within 90 seconds the 22-year-old had his and Bury's second. Mellis threaded the forward through on goal and he showed the ultimate composure to slot past Shea.

Full-back Danns came close to adding a third shortly before half time but his long-range effort was well held by Shea.

The second half began with neither side causing any threat until Taylor beat the offside trap on the 62nd minute to blast the ball into the top corner and halve the deficit.

Six minutes later it was all square. After Ben Williams made a stunning stop to keep out Chris Whelpdale's close-range shot, substitutes Dean Parrett and Tom Elliott combined with the latter heading home the equaliser.

Hope had the chance to win the game and wrap up his hat-trick seven minutes from time when he raced through on goal but Shea made the vital save.

Bury pressed for a winner late on but Wimbledon held out for the replay which will be played on Tuesday, August 15, kick off 7.45pm.
