BURY chairman Stewart Day says negotiations with Crewe over plans to re-sign fans' favourite Ryan Lowe have been put on hold until January.

However, the club are expected to confirm caretaker managers Chris Brass and Ryan Kidd as their next permanent bosses today.

Day held talks with Lowe's current club Crewe last week in a bid to bring him back to Gigg Lane as a player/coach.

But the Railwaymen, who signed the striker in the summer after he was released by Bury, are keen to hang on to their captain for the busy festive period.

“If anything can happen then it will happen in January,” Day told the Bury Times. “Ryan is still a target for the club but we will have to revisit it when the transfer window opens.

“Crewe do not want Ryan to go, especially over the festive period which is a very busy time and Ryan is a key player for them.

“If they let Ryan go now they would be very short and not able to replace him, but negotiations are still ongoing.”

As reported last week, Bury are expected to announce Chris Brass will take over as head coach today, with former youth team manager Ryan Kidd stepping us as assistant head coach.

Brass will not carry the title manager, but instead take the role of head coach until the end of the season.

“Chris and Ryan have the respect of the players already,” Day explained. “The players have bought into their plans and performances have improved.

“Chris will be the head coach, not the manager, and Ryan will be the assistant head coach.

“Chris Sedgwick will remain as a first-team coach and if we can get Ryan Lowe in then he will be another first-team coach.

“The difference between head coach and manager is that he can focus on coaching and developing players a bit more.”

On explaining the reasons why he opted for Brass instead of bringing in a new man, Day said: “We didn’t want to bring a manager in who would break down the plans that we have put into place over the last three years.

“We need someone who understands the club and understands the players and I believe Ryan and Chris are the right choice.

“I believe they can take the club forwards to where we want to be.”
