A CHOIR is not resting on its harmonius laurels following a busy festive period.

The Acapeelers choir, based in Bury, is on the lookout for more members to strengthen its vocal ranks.

Chairman Alan Scaife said: “Thirty people can sound very good. Fifty people can sound even better.”

And Alan should know for it is less then two years since he plucked up the courage to go along and see for himself what unaccompanied choral singing was all about.

A self-confessed ‘bullfrog’ with no musical training at all, he now looks forward to the weekly practice sessions held at 7.30pm on Thursdays in the Blackburn Hall behind Bury Parish Church.

Alan has now sung in public on many occasions and especially last summer when Bury Council linked up with the Acapeelers to organise a hugely successful Street Choir Festival in the town which attracted more than 30 choirs from all over the UK.

That event has become an annual affair and this summer will be held in Aberystwyth, which The Acapeelers are set to attend.

Alan added: “For all you bath-tub baritones and shower-screen sopranos, there is an open invitation to join us and come along to one of our Thursday sessions.

“If people attend, they don’t have to sing unless they want to but it will give an insight into what we do.

“And if our scene is not for them, then at least they will have given it a try.”
