Could you eat eight hot dogs in 20 minutes?
BIG-EATING residents will be asking themselves what’s the “wurst” that can happen — with the launch of a new eating challenge at a Bury pub.
Last Friday the Blue Bell in Manchester Road unveiled its ‘Big Dogs Challenge’ — a competition designed to test greedy guzzlers to their limits by attempting to eat eight hot dogs in 20 minutes.
The huge platter sees the American-style hot dogs garnished with sauerkraut, fried onions, ketchup and mustard — and also contains a mound of French fries.
Landlord Lee Pouncey said: “We only started the challenge on Friday – so far four people have entered and all have failed.
“One day I posted a picture on Facebook of three hotdogs I had eaten for lunch and people were commenting saying “I can’t believe you can eat all that!”
“It got me wondering how many it was possible to eat, so we launched the BigDogs Challenge.”
Champions will receive a T-shirt, a gallon of beer and the privilege of having their photo placed in pride of place on the pub’s wall of fame.
Lee, who took over the pub with his partner in September, 2009, regularly holds events with a “Freecycle” clothes night last month collecting 35kg of clothes for Francis House Children’s Hospice.
