Shop’s one-week mission to auction Stargate, Star Trek and X Files sci-fi magazines
12:16pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in Bury
When a collection of sci-fi magazines landed on the doorstep of a charity shop in Bury, staff were left feeling alien.
For volunteers at the Oxfam shop were scratching their heads at how much the donation, which includes hundreds of Star Trek magazines, could be worth.
They are hoping the comics, donated anonymously around two weeks ago, could bring a big financial boost to the charity.
After searching the internet, they found individual comics being sold from 99p up to £9.99.
Among the collection are Star Trek The Next Generation editions, Stargate, Star Trek and X Files magazines.
Staff hope to attract collectors and Star Trek fans who are interested in the comics to create a bidding war.
Jane Jeffery, who works at the shop, said: “To sell something like that in one day would be fantastic. We usually make £200 or £300 a day, but to make that amount through one thing would be brilliant.”
Staff say they are interested in selling the magazines as a group and not individually, and will accept offers and sell to the highest bidder in around one week’s time.
People who are interested in the magazines are asked to contact Oxfam by calling 0161 763 4964 or emailing email@example.com
