BURY’S early season slump continued in East London with their fourth defeat in five away matches.

A goal in each half from Afolabi Obafemi and Rhys Murphy turned the dagger in the hearts of Kevin Blackwell’s Shakers, whose late penalty from Anton Forrester was scant consolation in a match they dominated.

Obafemi’s opener came against the run of play two minutes before the break as the Dagenham forward turned Bury left-back Gareth Roberts before curling a deflected shot into the far corner.

Murphy then capped a tough day for Roberts, wrestling past the Bury captain to latch on to a long clearance upfield before passing the ball past Trevor Carson on 52 minutes.

And while Forrester set up a late fight-back with an 89th-minute penalty, Roberts failed to hand them a second last-gasp equaliser in as many weeks when his shot cannoned back off the post.
