DANNY Rose scored just six minutes into his second debut for Bury to round off a comfortable opening victory of the League Two season.

The 20-year-old Barnsley striker, whose return for a second loan spell was only sealed yesterday evening, burst clear in the 73rd minute before calmly rounding the Hartlepool keeper to slot home.

His strike doubled the Shakers’ advantage after Danny Nardiello had headed them in front in the 18th minute, converting a chipped cross from Ryan Lowe at the back post.

Lowe went on to hit the woodwork with a second-half shot before Bury understandably began to tire following their extra time cup defeat at Bolton in midweek.

Hartepool came close to equalising on the hour mark when Jonathan Franks’ header looped over Rob Lainton in the Bury goal. But Marlon Harewood inexplicably chested it over the line when standing in an offside position and the goal was disallowed.

And the introduction of fresh legs up front sealed the three points.

Rose took full advantage of a slip from Pools captain Matthew Bates to run half the length of the pitch before keeping his head to reopen his Bury account, adding to the three goals he scored in six appearances during his first spell at the club.
