A DEPLETED Bury side left Adams Park with a well-earned point against their fellow promotion hopefuls in a match that was marred by a serious-looking neck injury to Blues striker Steven Craig.

The Wycombe target man left the pitch conscious but on a stretcher, with his head taped down following a coming together with Shakers centre-back Pablo Mills.

His treatment, midway through the second half, saw more than 15 minutes of extra time played, and David Flitcroft’s men hanging on for the point.

Shakers midfielder Andrew Tutte struck the bar with a shot from distance in only the third minute.

Bury keeper Rob Lainton was then forced into a couple of smart saves from Sam Wood and Wycombe midfielder Peter Murphy took an air-shot on the penalty spot when well-placed to score.

But it was Flitcroft’s side that finished the opening half on top, with home stopper Matt Ingram diving full length to his right to turn a Danny Mayor shot behind following a flowing counter attack.

Ingram then fluffed a clearance straight to Danny Rose early in the second half, but the Bury front man was unable to continue his 100 per cent record after going into the game with four goals from his first four matches since arriving from Barnsley.

The game then went into a lull, punctuated by the stoppage in play to treat Craig, but Lainton had to be on his guard to make an instinctive stop from a Murphy header immediately after the restart.

Second half substitute Nicky Adams then went close with a header for Bury, before an amazing scramble in the Shakers’ box saw both Murphy and Matt McClure head the ball against the bar from a corner before the it was cleared.

Following that nervy finish, the Bury fans left Adams Park happy to settle for the point which saw the Shakers remain in sixth place in the League Two table, with Wycombe one place above them.
