BURY slumped to their fourth straight defeat after shipping in two second-half goals at home to struggling Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Shakers, who twice had goals disallowed for offside, fell behind in the 55th minute when substitute Alex Jakubiak slotted home a shock opener.

Experienced striker Jamie Cureton then took advantage of indecision in the Bury box with a smart finish on 74 minutes.

And a dispirited Shakers side were unable to bounce back in a match they had dominated before going behind.

It was a new-look line-up that took to the field - missing goalkeeper Scott Loach, captain Jim McNulty, wing-backs Hayden White and Chris Hussey, and striker Ryan Lowe.

And the rearranged home side, switching from their usual 3-4-3 to a more traditional 4-4-2, prodded and probed in the opening 45 minutes without getting a break in front of goal.

Danny Rose did have the ball in the net in the 34th minute, gambling to make a run at the back post before steering in Nicky Adams’ deflected cross-shot, only to be flagged for offside.

Rose also tested the Dagenham and Redbridge stopper with a few low shots that Mark Cousins did well to get down to gather.

Cousins also bravely dived at the feet of Adams to block his shot after new signing Rob Milsom sent a testing cross into the box.

Fellow debutant Adam El-Abd had a steady first half in a new-look back four that also included Craig Jones, who returned early following a hernia operation.

Nardiello headed against the bar in a promising opening to the second half for Bury.

Jones also glanced a header just wide from an Adams free-kick before disaster struck at the other end when Jakubiak slotted home a knockdown from a Dagenham free kick.

Bury had the ball in the net a few minutes later but Nardiello’s close range effort was disallowed after Adams, who found the Shakers striker with a pull-back, was flagged offside.

Danny Mayor was booked after going down in the box and the Bury fans, angered by the decision, let their frustrations spill over when Rose was taken off as part of a double substitution.

Boos rang out as the man-of-the-match left the pitch and seemed to exchange words with Flitcroft, prompting chants from the home fans of “you don’t know what you’re doing”.

The mood inside the JD Stadium darkened further when first Jones was forced to clear an Ashley Chambers shot off the line and then Cureton fired a dagger to the hearts of the Bury players with a clinical second goal.

Nathan Cameron headed against the foot of the post as Bury fought hard to find a way back into the game, but they remained goalless at the final whistle.

And the result saw them drop outside the play-off places into eighth spot.
