RAMSBOTTOM United’s newly-appointed manager Garry Vaughan is looking forward to the challenge of keeping the strugglers in the Premier Division of the Evo-Stik League, starting with Mickleover Sports at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium on Saturday.
The former Trafford FC player/manager helped lead the Shawe View side from the North Counties League into the Evo-Stik Premier during a 16-year spell with the club.
He said: “For the last three or four months I’ve felt it was time to return and I’m absolutely delighted Ramsbottom United have given me the opportunity.
“It’s quite a challenge, but I’m looking forward to taking the club forward and maintaining our position in this league.”
Vaughan, who has been coaching youngsters at FC United since leaving Trafford last November, takes over from legend, Jon Robinson, who quit last month following the Rams’ winless start.
Caretaker boss and player Phil Edghill is staying on as part of a three-man management set-up alongside coach Wayne Goodison, who Vaughan links up with again after their time at Trafford.
