ASTLEY Eastham has credited Shakers’ aggression for the comeback that claimed a point against the League One promotion chasers.

Centre back Eastham rifled home the leveller two minutes into injury time after Bury had trailed 3-0 to first-half goals from Sean Morrison and a brace from Terriers’ 32-goal hitman Jordan Rhodes.

Captain Steven Schumacher pulled one back 13 minutes before the interval with a deflected free kick from 30 yards and Lenell John-Lewis set up a grandstand finish when he made it 3-2 from substitute David Amoo’s cross with 20 minutes to go.

Eastham – on loan from Blackpool – atoned for an earlier miss in added time when he rifled the ball home from Sweeney’s corner to set up wild celebrations at Gigg Lane.

“It was a great feeling,” said Eastham.

“I don’t know what I’m doing celebration-wise when I score – I just go off on one.

“But it was a fantastic performance from the lads. We were disappointed with the first half and there were strong words at half time because we just weren’t aggressive enough.

“We put that right in the second half and I think we absolutely battered them.”

It was a result that looked scarcely believable as new boss Simon Grayson’s side started with the swagger of a side intent on promotion.

They took the lead on 21 minutes when Morrison pounced at close range before doubling their advantage four minutes later when Rhodes headed home Ward’s fine cross from the left.

Bury left-back Joe Skarz is a Huddersfield fan, but he did all he could to thwart his home-town club with a superb tackle in the 29th-minute to deny Lee Novak a shooting opportunity.

But the loose ball fell to Scotland international Rhodes, who rifled the ball home with his left foot from the edge of the penalty area.

It looked like Grayson’s men might rack up a cricket score, but Bury kept their heads and Schumacher crucially lifted his side with a goal back 13 minutes before the interval.

When John-Lewis grabbed his fifth goal of the season from Amoo’s cutback it was game on and Eastham was the man in the right place at the right time at the death to grab a deserved share of the spoils for Bury.
