Ronnie Jepson's threat to under-performing Shakers

CARETAKER boss Ronnie Jepson has promised any Bury players expecting a weekend off after defeat in their FA Cup replay at Cambridge United will get a nasty shock when they return to training today.

The Shakers would have been hosting League One Sheffield United in front of the BT Sport cameras in the next round of the cup on Sunday if they had been able to beat the non-league side on Tuesday night.

But after conceding from a late set-piece to fall to a 2-1 defeat at the Skrill Premier leaders, Bury find themselves without a match.

“It won’t be a break,” said Jepson.

“We’ll be back on the training ground working hard and trying to get up to where we want to be with them, reminding everyone of their jobs and their responsibilities.”

That pointed remark could well have been directed towards midfielder Tom Soares, who failed to track the run of his marker, Luke Berry, at the 87th-minute corner that led to Cambridge’s winner.

Soares’s mistake effectively robbed Bury of a £100,000 windfall, which would have come from entertaining the Blades in front of the TV cameras.

But Jepson extended his challenge to every fringe member of the squad – including Tuesday night’s goalscorer Shaun Harrad – calling for them to prove their worth in training before Bury’s next League Two match at home to fellow strugglers Northampton Town on Saturday week.

“We’ll have a head count then carry on working on what we believe they can get better at,” said Jepson.

“We’ll keep doing that and if they perhaps aren’t good enough or they don’t come to the fore then we’ll have to look at bringing other people in.”

With striker Danny Nardiello ineligible for the cup replay after being signed on loan after the original tie was due to be played, Harrad was handed a rare start against Cambridge and repaid his manager’s faith by scoring his first goal in 15 matches.

“Talk’s cheap at times,” added Jepson.

“When you’re not in the team people say they should be in the team so they had points to prove.

“But Shaun worked hard, he got his goal and could maybe have had another one.”

While the future of a number of Jepson’s players is in doubt, the caretaker boss, who has been given until January to prove he is the right man for the full-time position, admits the length of his time in charge also remains unclear.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in January, we’ll have to wait and see,” he added.

“We’ll see what ideas the club has going forward.”

Yes, talk is cheap and so are lemons. How many times do we have to listen to the same old drivel? These players could spend the next two years on the training ground 'working hard' and they still wouldn't be good enough. Wake up Ronnie. Stop churning out the bulls..t. Fans are not stupid. They recognize failures when they see them and this squad are exactly that. We are being led to oblivion.

"Talk is cheap" So fix it. Fix the work rate from these weak and tardy layabouts.

I hope you have been giving them extra training for a while now.

Apparantly more and more people are steadily coming to the same point and conclusion I started saying and being a P.I.A. about the minute the board made the delayed new manager appointment statement. Well after the worst of my anger regarding the Cambridge result has now subsided, I came to a few conclusions. If Jepson was a manager of any kind, he'd see for himself he wasn't able to get the best out of his deck, therefore his motivational or 'Mourinho' type skills are lacking or nil. We hear the same drivel after every game. Are the players hearing the same too? Have they tuned out? or are they just in limbo wondering we'll wait and see what happens come Jan 1! That "DRIFT" big mistake is all the creation of the board's error. Honourably if Jepson had been a full-time manager he should have tendered his resignation after the cup exit being the final straw. But he isn't full-time. He was asked to help out and be caretaker, therefore again if he had anything about himself at gauging a situation he should have gone to the board several weeks ago to tell them the situation needed resolving sooner than later! He has done none of these we know of. Sure he is not a quitter. I don't believe Ian Holloway is either, yet he stepped down. For us fans this is about was is best for our club. For the pros that club's employ it is about what is best for them personally, their finances, egos, and future careers. They are 90%+ mostly mercenaries. Few are one club type men like Gerrard or Giggs. There are those too that build up a certain 'special connection' with one club along their travels, but most are just a hired gun! It's why fans particularly like their own youth team developed players. I think we are at a point now that if the board made Jepson full-time manager on Jan 1, they'd be very shocked to see match attendance numbers after that. So it asks the question why din't they get experienced football advice right after KB was sacked? I have not been a Shakers fan as long as some out there, but long enough at 40 years. I was told the story about Ray Pointer when I was at school. This new board really needs to understand the recent history of this club, and not just a few snip-its. Its old heritage 100 years ago is great. How many clubs still in existence of our size and league position have 2 FA Cups on their C.V.? But as United and City began to awaken and grow we began to shrink. The final watershed point was when we headed down, and Div. 2 relegation rivals Leeds went the other way and on to 15 years of magnificent glory. Since those days just over half a century ago Bury has mostly wallowed with brief periods of success and renewed hope that never lasted long. The fanbase has steadily been eroded away over this time by false promises from board after board. Most Bury fans I know are very proud. Just being in business is frankly not enough for us. It's the manner we perform and conduct ourselves. When I got my first season ticket 40 years ago we usually played pre-season friendlies against non-league Wigan. Look how they have over achieved! What a dagger in ones heart to see them getting it right, whilst a club like Bury can't. Wigan had really no business being in the Premier league, but they managed to long ago overtake us and stay there 8 years. More importantly they built up there fanbase from a starting point worse than ours can be. Of course there are many worse cases than Bury by far, i.e. Stockport. The main thing is the board must understand what the fans actually want and expect, what the lost fans would want to come back, what would persuade young fans to chose Bury over others, and not repeat the same repeated mistakes of boards over and over the last 50ish years. Sorry Ronnie....If you were the actual manager now, I'd be shouting for you to resign within an hour of the full-time whistle after Cambridge. There are just too many things you have clearly shown in the role you just can't do.

Mr Day said from day one his aim was to be a championship side within 5 years, That was his aim.
Today with only a couple of games left before we reach the half way point of the season, I wonder how naive Mr Day you really are.
Six or seven full time players on your books when you arrived, If KB is to believed roughly 250 yes 250 had a try out before deadline day.
Did KB really pick the best 20? Or was he rushed into putting not even an average team together?
Mr Day you can boast all you want about sponsors, hospitality, Even I now see a stand renamed. You can paint and paper over any crack but how many will be loyal year in year out like us fans?.
You are now offering the last 10 home game season tickets at such a silly price any supporter would be daft not to take you up on that offer Mr Day if they never already had one, But and it's a really big But who really wants to pay to see the dross your team, (As chairman it is your responsibility) your team are playing week in week out.
For whatever reason Jenson is at the helm till Jan 1st only you know, if we do not get a result in our next game against Northampton, I hate to see anyone loose a job but Mr Day you will have to show you understand the fans, As the booing will get louder and louder, If you have that 5 year dream and believe in that dream. Allow us fans to believe in you to.
Get a manager who knows the lower leagues, bring in players who are not free/on loan. Take us on that journey with you, We understand no journey is smooth but at the moment we are travelling by ship and are about to be sunk.

After watching this weekends F.A. cup seeing the likes of Rochdale and oldham Possibly getting a big pay day from the next round i am still angry at our poor showing by most of our so called players in the Cambridge match.
I know we may not of got past Sheff utd but to dream is wonderfull eh ? with this lot our only dream is to stay in this division how sad is that ?? and you Mr Day should be asshamed to be letting it happen by leaving a clown in charge of us.!! even if we had got knocked out by Sheff utd i am sure we could have made use of the £80.000 we would have got from the T.V. company .
No appology from Jepson or the chairman for that matter as regards how sorry they were for such a poor showing against a none league team..
we are all fed up but do you know what ? i bet most of us can name his team for Saturday with the usual suspects still in the team Proctor Cammeron Soars Egdingwalle etc with Hinds in paticuler on the bench !! some comment would be nice Mr so called Chairman !!
