Bury boss David Flitcroft named Sky Bet League Two manager of the month
BURY manager David Flitcroft has played down the impact he has made at the JD Stadium after being named Sky Bet League Two manager of the month for February.
The Shakers boss, who only took over the hotseat last December, was rewarded after his side finished last month unbeaten, winning three and drawing two of their five matches.
But the 39-year-old Bolton-born coach said: “I don’t believe there should be an award for manager of the month.
"I think it should be club of the month because certainly here, while I am at the forefront of this, the people behind the scenes should be rewarded.”
A judging panel picked Flitcroft ahead of Plymouth Argyle manager John Sheridan, York City’s Nigel Worthington and Chris Wilder, of Northampton Town.
Dave Bassett, who chaired the panel, said: “David has had a major influence following his appointment.
"Bury’s unbeaten month secured an extremely valuable 11 points — steering them away from the relegation zone.”
Bury defender Jim McNulty just missed out on the player of the month award, which went to Rochdale striker Scott Hogan.
Wigan boss Uwe Rösler is the Championship manager of the month, while Nigel Clough scooped the award in League One.
Burnley’s Sam Vokes and Wolves’ Michael Jacobs won the respective player awards in the Championship and League One.
