PREVIEW: 'Rested' Shakers Brian Jensen, Chris Hussey and Andy Procter offer a great example, says Bury manager David Flitcroft

PLAYERS with a point to prove dominated David Flitcroft’s post-match press conference following Bury’s 1-1 draw at home to Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Brian Jensen, full-back Chris Hussey and midfielder Andy Procter all played key roles in extending the Shakers’ unbeaten home record to nine games under Flitcroft’s leadership.

Each player went into the game following a spell on the sidelines, and the Bury boss wants the rest of his squad to show the same fight in tonight’s match at Newport County.

“When you are in the team you are not tested,” said Flitcroft. “You are always tested when you are out of the squad.

“What are you prepared to give to the squad? That’s what I always look at in my players and what I want to see is professionalism.”

Flitcroft believes he has seen that in Jensen, especially.

The 39-year-old stopper was hauled off at half time at Southend and then dropped in favour of teenager Reice Charles-Cook for the 2-1 defeat at Torquay United, but returned on Saturday to make some telling blocks against Dagenham.

“We’ve had clear-the-air talks and Jens knows exactly what I want from him,” said Flitcroft, after discussing his concerns over the keeper’s distribution.

“Sometimes just coming out of it you can just see a different picture, and I think he’s seen a different picture.

“Jens is a top guy and he was excellent (against Dagenham). I’ve learned a lot about Jens, Jens has learned a lot about me and we move on.”

Hussey was also dropped after a below-par first start for the club at Southend following his loan move from Burton Albion.

But the 24-year-old defender returned to put in a man-of-the-match performance on his home debut on Saturday, scoring and putting in a string of telling crosses and set-pieces.

“The first three or four days I thought I had got the wrong Hussey and I’ve told him that,” said the Bury boss.

“But over the last four or five days I have been happy with his performance and I think there is at least 30 per cent more to come with Huss.”

Hussey’s late corner very nearly provided Bury with a deserved winner against Dagenham, but Procter’s header cannoned down off the crossbar and bounced just the wrong side of the line.

It was tough on the central midfielder after coming on as a second-half substitute for his first game time in 10 matches.

“It would have been fitting if he had scored that goal because he has kept himself game ready,” said Flitcroft.

“But all the lads were in a good mental state against Dagenham, and I will be demanding more of the same for what will be a tough trip to Newport.”

Bury have no new injury concerns, while both Tom Soares (hamstring) and Tommy Miller (ankle and thigh) will be pushing for a return.

Spin, spin & more spin,Jens was dropped, not rested and as for the other 2 players weel let's just say they are good squad players who are not quite match fit right now.

Did anyone see the Neil Warnock article today where he mentions the reason why he didn't want to take the Forest job.

Well it might not be of too much interest to us Bury fc fans but there are parallels between the owners of their club and ours.

He mentioned that the Forest owners were businessmen and very good at what they do however they know little about the football side of arunning a club day to day and recruiting the right people to make it successful.

Does this ring any bells at The Jd?,you bet it does, our season has been blighted by poor decision making on and off the field due to a lack of experience at boardroom level.

I'm confident that Little Stuart will get things on track for next season and bring in some proper footballing people.

So can Newport County's pitch be any worse than the rest of them in league 2?,different tactics need to be applied for tonight's game.We need to make the most of set pieces and be strong in the air,

They conceeded 2 early on against The Daggers but they have a striker in form with Chris (i always score against Bury fc- Zebroski) up front.

I think their defence is suspect but they do score quite a few goals at home so we will need to get 2 at least tonight or face a long trip back home with no points.

So, once again Eileen is stirring the pot! I'm sure she was happy when DF replaced Ronnie yet now she's recanting. DF is a footballing man with good knowledge of the game. He's picked us up from the abyss towards which we were surely headed. We have picked up points more often than not. No, it's not perfect yet but I'm sure after surviving relatively easily this season that, with a full pre season to tweak things, DF can move us onwards and upwards. Quit with your negativity and constantly changing opinions and just back the man whom we all agreed was and is the right man for the job. Also give the chairman the respect he deserves. He's saved us from extinction and given us hope for the future. He's put his money into our little club. He has a vision to which I think we can aspire. It's possible if we all pull in the right direction!

There's a lot of rubbish football speak going around but not the required results.

Well said. I have the greatest respect for the chairman. He put up the dosh and saved this club, invested in the infrastructure, hired The Manager and has the best interests of the club at heart. Yes, it is hard to make things happen right away, but we will be safe and I have every confidence that the gaffter will put this together over the summer.

Well once again binyomin you got there before me.Basically some people have short memories and E Shaker must be one of them. Can you imagine this kind of mentality in a manager of a football team, football players respond to positiveity, encourag
ement and generally good man management of being firm and fair,E Shaker likes to think she has all the answers and a phrase springs to mind ---ALL THE GEAR AND NO IDEA ---.loads and loads of inane drivel.
Looking back to the beginning of the season up to DF coming in it was a disaster on the pitch and that was down to coco the clown, since DF has arrived apart from the odd dissapointing result and yes we would have liked more wins than the draws(if you cannot win then do not lose) but points have been gained, lots of clean sheets and we are still in charge of our own destiny, with a superior goal difference should it be required for a level point finish.A good result at Northampton followed up with another and we wont be far away from writing off this season and looking to move on.Now come on lets all get behind DF and the team for that final push and i say to E Shaker if you cannot see any positives give us all a rest from the same old same old dross week in week out.
