BRIAN Jensen was the biggest casualty last night as Bury took the unusual step of revealing their retained list of players for next season ahead of this weekend’s final game of the current campaign.

The experienced goalkeeper, who has kept 15 clean sheets in 38 appearances, was one of seven Bury players to be told yesterday that they would not be offered an extension to their contracts.

Fellow stopper Trevor Carson - currently on loan at Portsmouth - has also been released along with defenders Richard Hinds and Robbie McIntyre, midfielders Tommy Miller and Lewis Young and forward Temitope Obadeyi.

Jensen, who is one of the favourites to scoop player of the season at Bury’s end-of-season awards tonight, took to Twitter after the shock news to thank Bury fans for their support.

And the 38-year-old Dane, affectionately known as the Beast, revealed he had no plans to retire.

“Just wanted to say a massive ‘thank you’ for your support, it means a lot to me and my family,” he wrote.

“I would like to thank the gaffer and the coaching staff for the opportunity to play for this great club.

“I am not retiring though, I am still going strong.”

The club also comfirmed that former Rochdale striker Ashley Grimes and ex-Shakers captain Andy Procter, who both signed on two-year deals last summer, had been placed on the transfer list.

And it was revealed Phil Picken, the final remaining member of the 2011 League Two promotion squad, had been forced to retire through injury.

The 28-year-old Droylsden-born full-back played 85 games for the Shakers over four seasons after signing from Chesterfield in August, 2010.

He suffered a cruciate injury playing at home to Preston in September 2012 and never played for the club again after his knee broke down on three aborted comebacks, the latest of which was earlier this year.

There was some good news for Bury players yesterday, however, as two veterans - midfielder Chris Sedgwick and striker Clive Platt – were offered new contracts, as was rookie goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook.

And the club announced that it had taken up the option to extend the contract of central midfielder Andrew Tutte for another season.

No surprise there then, releasing Jens doesn't add up in football terms I think David has just made one of his worst decisions which will come back to haunt him.
I would like to thank all of the 7 players who have been released for their invaluable contributions to help our great club pull away from the relegation zone, wishing them the best of luck with their future careers.

I agree with all the decisions made by David but am surprised at Jens. I have a feeling there was a personality issue here and sometimes those things can never be mended. Personally, I would like to thank Jens for some terrific work with our club and wish him well.

To the rest of the list I concur with Eileen statements above.

I think what is important for us to understand is how David and Mr. Day have created a winning formula. If you had the chance to listen to the interview with Mr. Day he stated {Players are calling us to join the club), which is what we want. Players who have a desire to compete.

I suspect a Goal Keeper of some stature has been found and that is why Jens is on his way out.

We do have to trust the Management, they have proven their credentials. Look at the table.

Somehow I think Saturday will be a experimental team at the Globe.

Was still a little taken aback by the release of the list pre-5pm on Saturday - have any of the other 91 clubs in the league done the same, even those going down a division for certain?
Could be wrong but I imagine those that have been released will no longer be coming to the ground, so could be an interesting team selection on Saturday!

David and the club haven't always got all of their decision making right this season however the results have been good and you have to say well done for keeping us up.
Jensen deserved another year if only as a back up reserve goalkeeper to provide his invaluable experience to our new first choice keeper.
I was hoping that the club might have considered employing him as our goalkeeping coach but alas that won't happen now.
