CHRIS Hussey is set to join Bury after the full-back agreed to waive a 12-month extension to his contract at current club Burton Albion.

The 25-year-old defender will now join the Shakers on a two-year deal when his current Brewers contract runs out at the end of June.

Hussey enjoyed a successful loan spell at Bury at the end of last season, scoring two goals in 11 appearances at left-back.

The former Coventry and AFC Wimbledon defender formed an impressive partnership with winger Danny Mayor on the left and created a number of assists with his pin-point crossing and set-pieces.

Hussey’s form led to a recall by Burton for the final match of the season and he went on to play all three matches of their ultimately unsuccessful League Two play-off campaign.

Those four matches tipped the young defender over a set number of appearances for the season, triggering an automatic 12-month extension to his one-year deal at Burton.

But a statement from Bury chairman Stewart Day explained: “The two parties mutually agreed to waive his contract extension for a second season.

“Hussey had triggered a clause in his contract which earned him a second year, but both parties agreed to part company and we look forward to having Chris back at the JD Stadium.”

Great news indeed! It is always good to see a player enjoying himself so much whilst playing. A true sport! Hopefully Bury will gain a reputation for excelling at sporting behaviour, as well as for their effective and entertaining football.

I think you will find that Gillingham are in League 1 not League 2, I am still wondering what Chris's motivation was signing for us when he had only just signed a 1 year deal with the Brewers.still who cares I am thrilled that he has decided to join our great club.maybe he/agent was just hustling for the better deal.

tee hee...just planning ahead Eileen. Maybe we should add Southend as one of the away bogey grounds.
He did not sign the one year agreement, it was automatically activated by his play off matches and I thought that was that. However, if one is offered a two year guarantee deal, with a Manager and club who want him...I think that is the motivation. I also think he believes (which I do), Burton have blown it by making the playoffs last season, then reaching the final this last season and not making it.
Nevertheless, a terrific signing

We just need a seasoned Goalie...I know, but he has moved on.
