Bury's cup clash with Bolton revives memories of derby tussles
BURY'S trip to Bolton in the Capital One Cup will spark memories of past encounters between the derby rivals.
The Shakers were handed the tasty first-round draw on Tuesday which will see them visit the newly-named Macron Stadium for a first competitive meeting in 12 years between the two clubs.
Shakers fans will be hoping for a re-run of a game in 2002 when Sam Allardyce’s experimental side were beaten 1-0, with Bernard Mendy putting through his own net.
Wanderers have never beaten the Shakers in three home meetings in the various incarnations of the League Cup and have yet to register a goal.
Away from home they have won once and lost once – memorably turning round a 2-0 deficit in 1993 with goals from Owen Coyle and John McGinlay, eventually winning 3-0 on penalties.
Games will be played in the week commencing August 11 with televised games played on the Monday and Wednesday night.
Sponsors Capital One are also offering fans a chance to buy up to five children’s tickets for a pound at all first round matches. Bolton will release details of how to take advantage of the offer in due course.
