ADAM El-Abd headed home a last-gasp winner for 10-man Bury to keep their promotion push going.

The on-loan centre-back stooped to head the loose ball over the line in the 91st minute after Northampton had made a hash of clearing Chris Hussey’s near post corner.

That followed a rare goal for holding midfielder Kelvin Etuhu, whose 66th minute shot crept in after a half-clearance from another Hussey corner found him on the edge of the box.

The play-off chasing Cobblers had taken the lead in the 10th minute when Ricky Holmes calmly converted debutant Diego De Girolamo’s through ball.

And Bury’s task was made even harder when right-back Joe Riley was rightly shown a straight red card three minutes after the break following a wild knee-high lunge on former Shaker Tom Newey.

But David Flitcroft’s side battled back to make it seven wins from their last eight matches, remaining fourth in League Two and moving to within a point of Wycombe Wanderers in the third and final automatic promotion place.
