FORGET warnings of burnout and fixture pile-ups, the games cannot come fast enough for Bury manager David Flitcroft.

The Shakers kick off their Easter double header today at Cambridge – the first of seven games in 24 days.

That run will determine if Bury are to push for automatic promotion or settle for a place in the play-offs.

But Flitcroft says he is relishing their hectic end to the season.

“After our last (completed) game (against Northampton), if there was a game on the Sunday I would have played it,” he said, after 10-man Bury came from behind to score a last-gasp winner.

“It was that exciting and enthralling. We have kept that momentum bubbling over, but I am sure a Tuesday game last week would have been what we would have all wanted.

“When you have Saturday-Tuesday games you can get a real vibe and feel for it and keep that momentum going.”

Flitcroft admits his players have had to "refocus" after last weekend's game against Southend was washed out, but he is adamant they will be ready to get back to business at the Abbey Stadium.

On paper, the trip to Cambridge looks to be one of Bury’s easier fixtures in the run-in.

They go on to entertain mid-table Morecambe on Monday before tough weekend trips to play-off chasers Newport and Portsmouth, either side of a crucial clash at home to second-placed Shrewsbury on Tuesday, April 14.

The showdown against fifth-placed Southend follows the following Tuesday in front of what is sure to be a decent crowd after chairman Stewart Day’s decision to offer free entry.

Four days later Bury host AFC Wimbledon in their final home match before a rare week off ahead of the season finale at Tranmere.

Flitcroft’s side are well placed in fourth, seven points outside League Two's automatic promotion places but with a game in hand of the top three.

“It’s been an exciting season – the points total already has been a fantastic achievement from the group,” he said.

“They are in good momentum, which is something we certainly want to carry on and know how to carry on.”

After picking up 21 points from a possible 24, there is no doubt Bury are one of the division's form sides.

And while they will be without suspended full-back Joe Riley for the next three matches, Flitcroft expects experienced defender Jim McNulty to recover from a hip problem in time for today’s game.

Young striker Danny Rose is also pushing for a return from a calf injury, while midfielder Joe Thompson is back on the scene following a loan spell at Southport.

On-loan Bolton Wanderers defender Rob Holding is also waiting to make his first-team debut, although the 19-year-old full-back played an hour for the development squad in Bury's midweek win against Wigan in the semi-final of the Lancashire FA Senior Cup.
