CHAMPIONSHIP new boys Preston North End will visit the JD Stadium for Bury’s final game of their pre-season programme.

Chairman Stewart Day has revealed the Shakers will host Simon Grayson’s play-off winners on Saturday, August 1, kick-off 3pm.

The Bury chief also confirmed the first team would be returning to Tenerife for a pre-season training camp but, unlike last year, would not be opening it up to the public.

“We are not going to be playing any games while we are out there so we're not going to be opening up to supporters,” he said.

“The aim is to get the players away for some warm weather training and to focus on getting the lads fit.”

Day, however, believes the programme of matches put in place for the team’s return to the UK should ensure they hit the ground running when the League One campaign begins on August 8.

Bury will kick off their pre-season schedule with a match at Evo-Stik Division One North side Warrington Town on Friday, July 10, before going away to the Canary Islands.

They will play three more away games on their return, at Conference side Macclesfield Town (July 22), League Two Morecambe (July 24) and Evo-Stik Division One North neighbours Radcliffe Borough (July 25) before home games against Championship clubs Blackburn (July 28) and Preston.

“I think the games we have lined up back at home will be a good test for us,” he said.

“We obviously already had the game against Blackburn arranged and now we have another Championship club in Preston visiting the JD Stadium, which should both be great games for the fans and good preparation for the lads.”
