BURY have signed Wolves goalkeeper Aaron McCarey on a month’s loan and thrown him straight into the starting line-up for today’s match at Shrewsbury following an injury to first-choice stopper Rob Lainton.

It is understood Lainton has a strained abductor muscle, a problem he picked up in Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat at Bradford.

McCarey, aged 23, has made seven appearances for Wolves, five in League One and two in the cups, and spent time out on loan at Walsall, York and most recently Portsmouth.

He chalked up six matches for Pompey, the last of which was a 1-1 draw at home to Stevenage in midweek.

McCarey has also represented the Republic of Ireland throughout the youth ranks, including 10 appearances for the Under-21s.

The young keeper endured a torrid summer after failing a drugs test in April He denied taking a non-performance enhancing drug, small traces of which were picked up in an out-of-competition FA test.

Following conclusion of an FA hearing in July he was suspended for four months but the punishment was backdated to April 21 and suspended for two years.
