BURY are expected to announce the signing of a new goalkeeper this afternoon.

With Daniel Bachmann due to return to parent club Stoke City after Saturday's FA Cup tie against Bradford and first-choice keeper Rob Lainton out injured, manager David Flitcroft has been working tirelessly to bring in a new shot stopper.

Flitcroft revealed at this morning's press conference that there may be some news of a goalkeeper signing from a "local club" later this afternoon.

“Something could develop on the keeper situation behind the scenes today,” he said.

“We have got very good relationships with local clubs so something could develop there.

“With Rob's injury we are still looking for that keeper.

"We might have some news later today on that. We don't stop searching if we think we need to do something, it is continuous.

“We know that it has been a temporary situation with Daniel (Bachmann) but we have also looked at other options.

"We are trying to get a few links locally with the bigger clubs around here and some might just come to fruition, maybe for Saturday or maybe a bit longer-term.

“I have not got a clear-cut decision at nine o'clock this morning but something could develop later today.

"Until that's ratified, clarified and confirmed I'm still in the dark at the minute with that one."

One possible option could be Manchester United youngster Joel Castro Pereira. The 19-year-old, from Switzerland, was recently recalled from Rochdale after making eight appearances for Bury's League One rivals.

When quizzed if he was worried about a potential goalkeeper crisis, the manager insisted he was calm and has plans in place.

He added: “I don't get worried. Worry is something that you expend energy on. I don't worry about anything.

“You worry when you don't have a plan. You worry when you've not got a plan and everybody else panics when you don't have a plan but we have.

“We will be all right and we will make sure we have that covered like we always do.

“We are working hard behind the scenes to get Rob ready to challenge for that number one spot.”
