DANNY Mayor's second-half equaliser helped Bury pick up their first point away from home in over two months, much to the delight of manager David Flitcroft.

The Shakers dominated the first half without finding the back of the net and fell behind when Danny Philliskirk struck home from the spot midway through the second period.

But Mayor drew his side level within minutes to send the travelling 1,308 Bury supporters into raptures.

“The energy we showed first half, there was only one team wanting to win it first half for sure,” Flitcroft said.

“Danny Mayor looked really menacing all afternoon. I was disappointed to come in 0-0.

“When their goal went in Cian Bolger took it out of the back of the net and sprinted up and put it back on the (centre) spot.

“I'm delighted with the character and the resolve shown, especially with the away run that we have been on, to get that point and to not go away with nothing it's all credit to the players.

“Blackpool are fighting for their lives. It was scrappy, it was an ugly contest."

Bury have picked up only four points on the road from a possible 39, but with impressive Gigg Lane performances have been able to reach their pre-season points target of 50 with a draw at Bloomfield Road.

“It's (50 points) the first target we set,” Flitcroft explained. “I'm delighted with that point. Certainly after going 1-0 down to the penalty.

“It has just put a wedge in what people keep throwing at you.

"There is nobody that has been more disappointed than myself.

“We had a meeting with the players to understand that on Wednesday, which was very productive.

“This week we have really focused on the away performance.

“It's a massive thing we are going to learn from next season and this season to try and right some of the wrongs from our performances.”

Contrary to recent away games, Bury started with a high intensity and forced the hosts to retreat into their own half for the majority.

Mayor produced a dazzling run early on to skip past four players but lofted his effort over the bar when through on goal.

Danny Rose, making only his seventh league start of the season, then flashed a header wide across goal from Craig Jones' cross.

John O'Sullivan sent a thunderbolt narrowly over the crossbar before drilling a shot into the side netting on the stroke of half time.

But the second half lacked quality and when Tom Soares fouled Jim McAlister in the penalty area in the 74th minute Philliskirk sent goalkeeper Chris Neal the wrong way from the spot.

The Shakers launched an instant reply down the right wing where O'Sullivan's low cross was turned home by the arriving Mayor, who netted for the first time in over three-and-a-half months.

The game petered out as the patchy pitch made it difficult for both sides' to put in a late push and they had to settle for a share of the spoils.
