BURY manager David Flitcroft and striker James Vaughan have been nominated for League One awards for September.

The Shakers won all five of their league matches in the month, adding a win against Morecambe in the Checkatrade Trophy for good measure.

Summer signing Vaughan was integral to their upturn in form, taking his goal tally for the season to five after scoring braces against Port Vale and MK Dons.

Flitcroft is up against former mentor Keith Hill, of Rochdale, for the manager of the month prize, as well as Northampton Town's Rob Page and Chris Wilder, of Sheffield United.

The Bury manager's Football League nomination read: "A perfect month guided by Flitcroft’s beliefs in attacking play and some shrewd moves at the end of the transfer window.

"Five wins from five games and a goal differential of 13-5 lifted Bury into the automatic promotion places."

Scunthorpe winger Josh Morris is favourite to win the player's prize after firing his side to the top of the division with five goals in as many games. He has since taken his tally to 12 for the season after firing in the winner at Bury in the first match of October.

The other two players up for the award are Bradford goalkeeper Colin Doyle and Northampton's veteran midfielder Matt Taylor.

But Vaughan's nomination applauded the striker's decision to drop down from the Championships in a bid to rebuild his career, which has been blighted by injuries, at Gigg Lane.

The Football League added: "He has added a touch of class to the Bury attack with his running and link-up play. His finishing touch is still there, too, as proven by braces against Port Vale and MK Dons."
