BURY boss David Flitcroft insists he is not under any pressure for his job despite leading the side to their worst run of results for 15 years.

Fans chanted "you'll be sacked in the morning" at Northampton on Saturday, where the Shakers fell to their seventh straight defeat in all competitions.

At the end of September, when Flitcroft won the League One manager of the month award, Bury were second in the table.

But they have failed to pick up a single point in October and fell to 15th following their 3-2 loss at the Cobblers.

Yet Flitcroft, who took over in December 2013, leading Bury to promotion from League Two in his first full campaign in charge before securing a mid-table finish in the third tier last season, has asked disgruntled supporters to judge him on his three years in the hotseat, not just on October's seven defeats.

“My time as a Bury manager should be judged over the three years of what we have done as a football club,” Flitcroft said.

“At the minute we are not getting the results that we desire but we believe we'll turn the corner.

“I don't feel pressure. I have had some low moments in my life and that's when you're under real pressure.

"Hopefully, we'll get this group turned around pretty quickly.

“We do genuinely work hard as a group and we are giving it everything.

"We are a few results short of getting back into the play-off places.”

A brace from Marc Richards and a trademark free-kick from former Bolton Wanderers winger Matt Taylor put the Cobblers 3-0 up and seemingly crusing to victory.

Keeper Ben Williams was forced into a number of magnificent saves – not least to keep out the impressive Sam Hoskins on two occasions – as the Shakers looked to avoid an embarrassing scoreline.

Academy graduate George Miller, aged 17, netted his first professional goal to pull one back midway through the second half and winger Zeli Ismail gave Bury hope of a remarkable comeback with a fine low strike eight minutes from time.

The Shakers were unable to make use of nine minutes of added time to find an equaliser as the Cobblers' resilient defence stood firm.

After the game, Flitcroft admitted he feels some Bury supporters have never supported him since he took charge of the club in December 2013.

The 42-year-old is a former Shakers midfielder, but went on to work for many years as assistant manager at rivals Rochdale.

He says he understands why some supporters do not want him in charge of the club, but asks them to look what he has achieved since joining before calling for his head.

“There have been 100 fans, maybe more than that, who have not wanted me from day one,” Flitcroft added.

“There have been fans who have not enjoyed me being the Bury manager, I get that.

“You will always get haters in any job you do. That is business, that's certainly football.

“Those people who don't want me at the club, us not winning games galvanises their spirit.

"But I was really delighted with the fans who stayed to clap the players off the pitch at the end.”
