HALLAM Hope says he is ready to step up and help end the Shakers’ bad run of results after netting twice against Wimbledon on Saturday.

The striker’s brace against the Dons helped Bury end a run of seven straight defeats, albeit only with a draw after they led 2-0.

The 22-year-old, who has struggled for a regular run of games this term, has catapulted himself to the top of the club’s scoring charts with five goals – level with fellow strikers James Vaughan and Tom Pope.

But with Pope recovering from his horrific rib injury, Hope says he is ready to play any part in helping the team get back to winning ways.

“Hopefully I will have staked my claim for a place now,” Hope said.

“Form has been up and down, we have had some good performances but we have been let down by some individual mistakes.

“We just need to stick together now and work hard and we will come through it.

“It’s not really about being the top goalscorer. We have not had a result against Wimbledon but to get the draw is a step in the right direction.

“We wanted the win but we got the draw. I have been in and out of the squad and changing position a few times as well. I just want to help the team as much as I can and if I get the chance to play then I’ll give it my all.”

Hope scored twice in as many first-half minutes but Bury let slip a two-goal lead on Saturday.

However, the forward had the chance to win the game when he raced through on goal with two minutes left on the clock.

Goalkeeper Jay Shea made the vital stop which took the game to a replay and prevented Hope netting his hat-trick goal.

“I would have preferred to get three obviously,” Hope said. “It’s annoying not to, especially with the last chance that I had.

“It was disappointing that we didn’t get the win in the end but I think we were a lot better in this game than we were in the previous one. We have worked really hard and I think it showed.”
