GREG Leigh says Bury must not get complacent after pulling six points clear of the League One relegation zone.

The Shakers are as far off the top half as they are the bottom four but with eight games remaining Leigh has issued a stern warning to his team-mates.

The 22-year-old full-back, who has played 43 games this season, staved off relegation from League Two with Crewe on the final day of the season two years ago – a “nightmare” he wants to steer clear of this time around.

“It’s a weight lifted off our shoulders but it’s important you carry on going,” Leigh said after Tuesday’s 3-0 win against Bristol Rovers.

“We can’t rest on our laurels. Teams can slip into trouble at this late stage of the season so we need to stay concentrated and try to get the points in early doors.

“We don’t want it going down to the last game. I have done that already with Crewe – it was a nightmare.”

Next up for Bury is a tricky trip to play-off chasing Millwall.

The Den has a notorious reputation as a hostile environment but Leigh is prepared and says he will be fully focused on the task at hand.

“I’ve heard a lot about it (The Den),” he said. “I was on the bench down there in the play-offs last year but, for me personally, I don’t hear the crowd.

“You have to get your head down and get on with the job.”

Meanwhile, Bury winger Jack Mackreth has returned to Macclesfield Town on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old, who signed for an initial fee of £30,000, has made only three appearances since putting pen to paper at Gigg Lane in January.
