LEE Clark has called on his Bury side to take the goalscoring burden off star striker James Vaughan after the in-form frontman was today named in the Players' Football Association's League One team of the year.

The Shakers have scored just one goal in their last six matches, a consolation bagged by Vaughan in a 5-1 defeat at Oxford United.

They have failed to find the net since that game on March 28, while their leading striker has scored four of their last seven goals, spanning over 10 matches.

Vaughan has already said saving Bury from relegation would count more than finishing top of the League One scoring charts – he is currently five goals behind the division's leading scorer Billy Sharp, who has 27 and was also named in the PFA team.

All his 22 league goals this campaign will count for nothing if the Shakers go down, and the Bury boss has called on the rest of the team to step up in the the final two games, starting with the last home game of the campaign against Northampton on Saturday.

“We are putting too much of a burden on those at the top end,” Clark said. “I know it’s their job, especially James (Vaughan) who has been very consistent doing that, but we have to take the burden off him.

“We are going too many games without scoring now, which is a problem because you only win games by scoring goals.

“It looks like we are playing at the top end of the field with a little bit of fear and we shouldn’t have that.

“We are not taking enough risks in the final third, we are not getting enough opportunities.”

Bury's next top scorer after Vaughan is academy graduate George Miller, who has managed seven goals despite only making five starts in his 28 appearances.
