JAMES Vaughan says he will sit down to discuss his future with Bury this summer after netting 24 goals in his debut season at Gigg Lane.

The former Everton striker’s goals were crucial to helping the Shakers to safety but his form is bound to attract interest from larger clubs.

Vaughan has one year remaining on his contract and says he is happy at Gigg Lane after reaching a career record for goals in a single season.

“This is my best season personally,” Vaughan said. “I’m enjoying my football like I haven’t done in a long time.

“Probably the end of the season has come at the wrong time for me but if the break means we are safe then I am happy.

“I am really enjoying it. Now the season is done we will sit down and all discuss it and go from there.”

Vaughan was named the Bury Times player of the year after becoming the first player to score more than 20 goals in a season since Ryan Lowe in 2010/11.

The 28-year-old is expected to pick up further awards at the club’s end of season awards night tonight.

He already won the EFL League One player of the month in January and was named in the division's team of the season.
