BURY are on the verge of two more signings which are expected to be completed this week.
The Bury Times understands a defender with Champions League experience is set for a medical at Carrington today after a fee with his current club was agreed.
If given the all-clear by the medical team the deal could be completed as soon as this afternoon.
And tomorrow a midfielder, who is currently a free agent, is due for a medical.
Personal terms have already been agreed between the two parties so just the formalities remain.
If both transfers are successful it will bring Lee Clark’s summer signings to a total of eight, following the arrivals of defenders Adam Thompson and Joe Skarz, who joined from Southend and Oxford, respectively in the past week.
Thompson penned a three-year deal at Gigg Lane after the Shakers fought off competition from Championship side Millwall. Skarz also returned to the Shakers for a second spell after mutually terminating his contract with the U’s to sign a two-year contract.
Clark is said to have been handed a smaller budget this year compared to what his predecessor, David Flitcroft, was given last term.
And while eight players have joined so far this summer, 21 have departed – the latest being winger Jack Mackreth who has moved to Wrexham for an undisclosed fee.
Clark’s playing squad currently stands at 20 – four players shy of his ideal number, meaning further incomings are in the offing.
Meanwhile, Bury’s youth-team production line seems to have struck gold again after the club accepted a bid for a 16-year-old player from a Premier League club.
The Shakers have agreed a six-figure sum for the highly-rated youngster.
Bury have already profited to the tune of more than £1 million from their youth system over the past four years, following sales of youngsters such as Matty Foulds to Everton and Jacob Bedeau to Aston Villa.
