BURY are edging closer to two more signings, while skipper Antony Kay has been told he can leave on a free transfer.

Lee Clark has confirmed the club have offered contracts to potential signings but the Shakers boss is hoping to trim his squad before any further arrivals.

“We are working hard on both ins and outs,” Clark said. “We have spoken to a couple of players and have laid some contracts out on the table.

“The ones we have spoken to are weighing up other offers, so it might take a bit of time in that respect.

“Some are contracted to other clubs, some aren’t.

“I am only looking to bring in three or four more players.”

Since goalkeeper Ben Williams and midfielder Neil Danns were told they could leave last week, captain Kay has since been warned he is surplus to requirements.

Clark said: “I have so much respect for Antony. I took him to Huddersfield and have a long-standing relationship with him.

“He is a top guy but I’ve got Nathan Cameron and the two new signings (Adam Thompson and Eoghan O’Connell) which would make it difficult for him to get game time or even in the matchday 18.”

Bury Times understands Blackpool skipper Tom Aldred is still being pursued by Bury and an improved contract offer has been tabled for the centre-back.

However, the Shakers face stiff competition from the Seasiders, who are desperate to keep hold of their out-of-contract defender.

Bury, meanwhile, are expected to complete the sale of an unnamed 16-year-old youth team player to a Premier League club this week.
