LEE Clark is relishing the opportunity to pit his Bury side against Premier League opposition on Sunday.

The Shakers host Clark’s former side Huddersfield Town, who have spent in excess of £35 million strengthening their squad this summer after winning promotion from the Championship.

And Clark expects all of their stars, including £11 million striker Steve Mounie, to feature.

“I expect it to be different to the Sunderland match,” Clark said, after they opened their pre-season campaign last Friday with a 3-2 defeat.

“Players will get a bit more game time, around 60 to 70 minutes. It will be another step up and a great test.

“I anticipate most of their (Huddersfield’s) new signings will feature and they should bring quite a few fans down so it will an enjoyable afternoon. It is a club close to my heart as they gave me my first chance in management. I picked them purposely so that the lads would really be tested.”

Bury have spent the past week at a warm-weather training camp in Marbella, Spain, where the squad have been put through their paces in up to three training sessions a day.

But along with the fitness training, Clark’s 11 new signings have been able to integrate with the group.

He said: “The lads are working very hard, the intensity is good and they are pushing each other all the way.

“The competition for each position is of a very high standard.

“It has given the squad good time to bond and all the new players have settled in very quickly.”
