NEW Shakers commercial director Mark Catlin believes Bury are more financially sound than 90 per cent of clubs across the country.

With Alan Knill’s men flying high at the top end of League Two, it is imperative they have solid foundations in the boardroom to match the ambitions of a talented squad and manager.

And Catlin, who came to the club in November, has indicated that the future is rosy for the club and its supporters.

“I spoke to a few clubs before Bury spoke to me and I know for a fact that Bury FC are in a far stronger position then I would suggest 90 per cent of other clubs are, in all divisions,” said Catlin, who is the owner and managing director of Telitec, one of Spain’s largest independent telecommunications companies.

“Yes, monthly, we have to balance the books, but at least we are doing so not having to worry about a £3 million debt here or a £600,000 outstanding bill there.

“Plus we own our own ground and have no rent or mortgage to pay. These are incredible figures when I look at the position of other clubs across the divisions.”

Catlin is already planning for the future and he is working hard to bring in extra funds.

“For next season I am keen, and actively working, to link with businesses rather than just take a one-off hit in the sale of, say, a perimeter board,” said Catlin.

“I am more open to the idea of introducing a revenue share scheme with businesses that want to partner with us.

“Anyone reading this article who feels they can offer something to our fans, and we can gain ongoing revenue from it, then please feel free to contact me at the club any time.”

Bury are currently celebrating their 125 year anniversary and have set the ball rolling on marking the occassion in style.

“We are organizing a 125th anniversary dinner at the Midland hotel (Manchester) on April 24 and this should be a fantastic event both in respect of the evening itself and the financial benefit for the club,” Catlin added.

“We have also instigated the start of a series of events aimed specifically at the renovation of the social club, starting on March 5 with a Legends evening attended by ex-Shakers players.

“Money raised on this evening, and subsequent events, will go directly towards a fund to renovate the social club as I believe that if these facilities are of a sufficient standard then we can attract further revenue by having a full order book of weddings, christenings, birthday parties etc.”
