THE man they call “Pan” has arrived at Gigg Lane promising he’ll quickly be cooking on gas.

Nigeria-born striker Lateef Elford-Alliyu has joined the Shakers on loan from West Brom until the end of the season looking to rediscover the scoring touch he showed last season at Tranmere.

The 19-year-old proved a big hit at Prenton Park, racking up five goals, before a knee injury forced him on to the sidelines.

He returned to Rovers this season for a month, and has recaptured his form for Albion’s reserves, recently netting against a Chelsea side containing Michael Essien to catch Richie Barker’s eye.

Now Elford-Alliyu – who has no clue as to the origin of his unique nickname – reckons he can handle the goal burden for a side who have struggled for striking options in recent weeks.

“It’s a challenge I’m looking forward to,” he said. “As soon as I heard Bury were interested I wanted to come because they play good football.

“I want to bring goals, hard work and help the team in any way I can.

“I want to put that injury behind me now.

“It was something I had for a long time but it never stopped me playing. Perhaps playing too many games in a short period of time made it worse but I’m over it now, so I want to kick on.”

The former England Under-17 international is well acquainted with former Baggies man David Worrall and also got a glowing recommendation of Gigg Lane from ex-Shaker Kyle Bennett.

And he saw his new team-mates first hand on Tuesday night as they fell 2-1 at MK Dons.

“The team did well in the second half because it was hard work with 10 men against a good side,” he said. “Hopefully, we can score some goals on Saturday and start climbing the table again.”

Barker hinted that the youngster could be involved against Leyton Orient.

“He’s fit and ready to go,” the manager said.

“It was only that he turned up literally half an hour before training on Monday.

“It would have been difficult to throw him straight in, and obviously we wanted to introduce him, but because of what happened (with injuries) we just couldn’t.

“We explained that to him and he was fine.

“He’s had plenty of minutes at Tranmere so he’s fine to play.”
