John Tavares’s second goal of the night was an overtime tiebreaker that lifted the New York Islanders 5-4 over the Montreal Canadiens.
Tavares struck 1.51 into the extra period to make a winner of New York goaltender Thomas Greiss, who made a career-high 52 saves during the road game.
Mathew Barzal, Anthony Beauvillier and Adam Pelech also scored for the Islanders, who celebrated their third straight win in a row.
The Dallas Stars’ clash with the Boston Bruins was also decided in overtime, with Tyler Seguin scoring the goal for the Texans to edge their hosts – his former team – 3-2.
In Denver, the Colorado Avalanche beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 with goals from Nathan Mackinnon, Matt Nieto and Colin Wilson.
The Los Angeles Kings were beaten 4-1 by the San Jose Sharks, the third time in a row they have been beaten by their Californians.
