SEDGLEY Tigers are planning for a promotion assault next season.

With two games left in National League Two North the Whitefield men are guaranteed to finish fourth.

With only the top team promoted and the second-placed side entering into a promotion play-off with the runner-up in National League Two South, Sedgley have mapped out where they need to improve to give themselves a chance of returning to National League One at the second time of asking.

They are looking to boost their squad with one eye on being able to switch tactics when they play on poor pitches.

The season is ending well for the Park Lane side with Saturday’s 34-20 victory over Birmingham Solihull their fifth win on the bounce.

“It has been a good season,” said manager Geoff Roberts. “The squad has developed, but now it’s time to shop around for new players.

“We need to find one or two new faces in the second row and back row so we can handle the Plan B for when the pitches and conditions are bad.

“Obviously we need a hooker too because Johnny Matthews has signed for Rotherham.

“We’re going to have another really good go at trying to win promotion again next season and I think we’ve got the basis of a good team.”

Roberts was impressed with his side last weekend, and is looking to continue that form this Saturday at home to Luctonians (Kick off 2.30pm).

Sedgley conceded a try on five minutes and Steve Collins reduced the arrears to two points with a 10th-minute penalty before Matt Lamprey put the Park Lane men ahead with their first try after 25 minutes, converted by Collins.

The teams went in level at half time following a 35th-minute try by the visitors.

Callum McShane got Sedgley’s noses in front again four minutes after the break, again converted by Collins, but stubborn Birmingham pulled it back to 17-13 with a penalty.

Soon after, however, there was some daylight between the sides when Richard Wainwright scored an unconverted try in the 54th minute, and four minutes later William Emerson added another five points, Collins converting, to increase the lead to 29-13.

Birmingham put another seven points on the board with a converted try on 72 minutes before Jimmy Lloyd had the last word with an unconverted try.
