BURY are still searching for their first win of the season after crashing to their third consecutive defeat at home to league leaders Trafford Metrovick on Saturday.

The depleted Radcliffe Road outfit lost 70-6 against the high-flyers in the top against bottom clash in the Lancashire North league.

Although injuries and illness continue to rack up for the so far pointless Bury side, they did start the game well.

Some early penalty exchanges kept Bury within touching distance but an interception on the left wing soon unlocked the door for Trafford to score their first try through scrum-half Zack Crabb. Captain Ben Wheeler converted for MV.

Bury pegged them back with another penalty kick to make it 13-6 and at one stage the home side looked like they could go into the break with a real chance of an upset.

However, uncertain play from the Bury pack was to be ruthlessly punished by Trafford and the hosts were 20-6 down at half time as full-back Gareth Bevan strolled through the home's defence. The conversion was also added.

Trafford piled on the pressure after the break and were relentless in the back line, cutting holes in the defence for the rest of the afternoon.

Bury made a number of unforced errors as the visitors ran in a series of converted tries from James Mattie (four), Andrew Moore and Wheeler, while the bad luck on the injury front continued with Kio Rostamian going off with a serious looking ankle problem.

But Bury did pressurise the Trafford line searching for a consolation try late on but the ball was turned over and kicked down field for Crabb to notch up MV's final try of the afternoon.

Basement club Bury face a tough game at home to second-from-bottom Colne and Nelson on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

A bumper crowd is expected at Radcliffe Road with an all-day rugby extravaganza – including junior, senior and women’s games – all taking place.
