SEDGLEY Tigers are looking to compete with the best then beat the rest.

The Whitefield men have the toughest of tests coming up over the next fortnight with games against the top two.

But when they get Ealing and Jersey out of the way, they will consider at least six of the last seven games of the season to be highly winnable.

A strong end to the season could see the Tigers rise from their current ninth position to sixth, which would mark huge progress after struggling at the wrong end of the table last season.

And they will be looking to experienced players like captain Mick Flynn, Louis McGowan, Richard Oxley and Matt Riley to lead from the front in the run-in.

After travelling to Ealing on Saturday, Rich Senior’s men entertain Jersey, who are currently five points clear at the top and the best team in the league according to the Tigers head coach.

“Jersey have the resources to win it and I think they will go on to win it,” Senior said.

“Ealing are also well backed and well resourced. But they have had a difficult spell recently.”

The London club were comfortable leaders until they drew one and lost three in a rocky mid-season period.

They have recovered with two wins, but find themselves playing catch-up with Jersey in a title race in which Fylde, Rosslyn Park and Macclesfield cannot be ruled out.

“We want to take points off both Ealing and Jersey in the next two weeks,” said Senior.

“Ealing haven’t been at their best recently, and we’ve got Jersey at home.

“But we’ll have to play better than in our last game against Blackheath.

“We were disappointing because we made far too many unforced errors and allowed them to play their way back into the game when we should have closed it out.

“In the next two games, if we get 90 per cent of our game right we are capable of beating anybody.

“Ealing beat us at our ground but they were not that much better than us. It is up to us to put our plan into place.

“There are no easy games in the division, but there’s no doubt we’ll be looking to take points from the run of games which follows.

“We need to put in two good performances in the next two weeks to give us a platform for the run-in.

“If we came sixth I would be overjoyed. That’s a good season for us, but we have to put our performances in to do it.

“But we could be much higher if we had taken the points we could. We have won 10 games and Fylde have won 13 and are third.

“Looking at that, there are three or four games that we have lost where we would have won if we hadn’t let ourselves down.

“That shows that there is nothing in it in this league.”
