SEDGLEY Tigers may have celebrated survival after their tight win over Rosslyn Park last time out, but head coach Rich Senior has no plans to sit back and let the season fizzle out.

Senior has called on his squad to improve on their final position by the end of the season with victories in their last three games.

Without a game last weekend, Sedgley slipped a place to 10th, just six points behind this weekend’s opponents.

The Tigers take on seventh-placed Blaydon at Park Lane on Saturday (kick off 2.30pm) with every possible chance of leapfrogging the North East side by the end of the season. Sedgley beat Blaydon away earlier in the campaign with a composed, professional display, and Senior is hopeful of similar things from his players this weekend.

“We beat them earlier this season at their place and we know they’re tough up front,” he said.

“We believe we can match them in those areas and exploit them on the wings with our pace. The lads got the weekend off training, so they should be fresh and ready for the challenge.”

With bottom-placed Barking next up after Blaydon, followed by the final game of the season at home to Cambridge, who are one place below them, Sedgley are confident they can pick up points from their run-in.

And with their place in the National League One assured for next season, Senior does not want his team to fall into a comfort zone.

He is insisting they maintain their focus and concentrate on this weekend’s fixture and finishing as high up the table as possible.

“Around us, it’s much of a muchness,” he added. “Everything’s so tight between seventh and fourth from bottom that the opportunity is there for us to finish as high as possible, and we’re confident we can do so.

“The focus is firmly on Blaydon this weekend and we’re not looking past that game.”

With fly-half Chris Parrott and wing Jamie Harrison set to return from injury, Sedgley’s back row will be bolstered as they return to action.

A victory over higher-placed opposition in Blaydon would give the Tigers confidence going into their Lancashire Cup quarter-final against Broughton Park next Wednesday.
