BURY Broncos secured a third consecutive away win in the North West Counties League Division Five, and sealed their second double of the season just two weeks after achieving their first.

The victory maintained the Broncos’ comfortable mid-table position, showing the progress the club has made over the last year both on and off the field.

Newton took an early lead as the Bury side took time to settle.

In a hard-fought physical clash, the Broncos never let their heads go down and were soon back in the game with an excellent try from Phil Bygrave, which was created by Joe Galpin, and a barge-over try by Dave Bradley.

The Broncos went into the break 12-10 ahead, but went behind early in the second half when they again began poorly.

Bury moved players around due to injury, but the shake-up did not have an unsettling effect on the team. Quite the opposite as they settled into a solid rhythm and showed the resolve they have built up during a successful campaign.

Resolute in defence, with Rick Brogan again excellent, the Broncos continued to keep Newton at bay and pressed forward when they had the opportunity.

Good kicking meant the Broncos always had a chance, and good hands across the line saw Bygrave again touch down in the left corner.

Now ahead, the Broncos played a sensible game, taking a penalty chance offered and looking to continually complete their sets despite constant pressure from Newton’s pack.

Then, with just a few minutes to go, Bygrave crossed again out wide to cement the victory.

l Broncos are looking for a new first-team coach. He will be assisted by a number of qualified level two coaches who are already part of the playing squad.

The successful applicant will ideally require a level two coaching licence in order to satisfy Clubmark criteria, or must be wishing to obtain the qualification.

He will take charge of training and coaching the team in Saturday fixtures in the North West Merit League until August.
