BURY took a backward step after an improvement in recent performances, falling to a 34-12 defeat at home to Hutton as they remain second bottom of the Lancashire North division.

Hutton hit the ground running, creating an overload on the right flank after the kick off to score in the corner.

The Rams pegged the visitors back as they looked to respond, but conceded a second try on the break as Hutton again created an overlap on the right.

Bury managed to get back into the game just before half time as Alex English intercepted the ball in his own half and outpaced the chasing defence to score before the break.

Defensive lapses early in the second half allowed Hutton to reaffirm their cushion with a converted try.

The home side used the scrum to good effect and a yellow card to a Hutton forward gave Bury a platform, creating space for English to go over again in the corner.

The game slipped into ill discipline late on and following a yellow card for Tai Tupou for a professional foul in the red zone Hutton continued to build a lead. The last play of the game marred the game somewhat as a large fight led to George Kelly being red carded.

Bury must up their game as they travel to high flying Littleborough next weekend.
