BURY held on for their fifth consecutive home victory to ruin former director of football Keith Alexander's return to Gigg Lane.

Elliott Bennett scored the decisive goal just before half time, slamming the ball home after Andy Bishop had sent a shot towards the six yard box.

David Buchanan should have scored his first goal for the club when Bishop teed him up for a free shot on goal on 63 minutes, but the Northern Ireland under -21 international blasted high over the bar.

Bury remained in control and Bennett nearly grabbed a second when he latched on to Richie Baker's through ball only to stab his shot into the side netting.

Macc threw everything forward in the latter stages but Jim Provett remained largely untested.

Bishop should have settled matters with virtually the last kick of the game - blasting over the bar after Bennett has worked him through on the keeper.
