Parking is needed near to vets

I took my two cats to the vet on The Rock in Bury to have their vaccinations.

There was no place to park to drop off the cats, so I parked illegally on the pavement. A few minutes later I came out to move the car and was faced with a parking ticket, ‘fair cop’.

Three weeks later I had to return for their booster and parked on the KFC retail park and struggled to carry the cat carrier containing two cats, making frequent stops.

On returning 40 minutes later I found a parking ticket made out at the same time that I had arrived.

The sign said that it was two hours free parking for retail park patrons — it did not stipulate that I had to shop first. I read it to mean that to park there I had to shop in one of those outlets. How do they know that I would not have a KFC or browse in the other shops? So my darling cats have now cost me £350 instead of £140.

It is a crying shame that as an ‘animal loving country’ there is no drop-off zone to an emergency vet or a place to park within reasonable distance.

You do not state the time of your visit to the vets...but surely the car park behind Wilkinsons store is nearer than the KFC retail park (and cheaper than a ticket)...or was it full?

I write to sympathise with the lady who received a parking ticket on two seperate occasions when visiting our surgery on The Rock in Bury. From the very beginning of the new development The Rock Triangle, we at Armac Vets have had many meetings with representatives of the developers, Thornfields and Laing-rourke. We have received many promises that the development would include a "drop off" zone for our clients with injured and sick animals. Unfortunately those promises were all empty ones.

However, on a more positive note, The Rock in front of our surgery is an access road, with a parking bay opposite, which does allow people to drive close to our surgery to drop their pets off. We also have some dedicated parking spaces at the rear of our surgery opposite Kwik-Fit, again for the purposes of dropping off your pets. These facilities work quite well through the day and are particularl;y useful at night when people bring in genuine emergency cases. We have now opened two new surgeries with their own FREE PRIVATE CAR PARKS.One is at Fairfield opposite Fairfield Hospital, and the other is at Bradshaw Brow Bolton opposite Canon Slade School. We encourage our clients to take advantage of these new facilities, and please be assured that you will still see the same vets.
