Cheryl Britton

DR CHERYL BRITTON It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dr Cheryl Britton. Cheryl, aged 60, passed away peacefully at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on the evening of Sunday, July 7th with her family at her bedside following a brave battle against breast cancer. Beloved wife of Michael and loving mother of Christopher and Jonathan. Dearly loved daughter of John and Doris and much-loved sister of Nicholas. Dear sister in law of Anita and aunt of Edward and James. She will be greatly missed by all. Cheryl, born and raised in Bradford, qualified as a doctor at the University of Birmingham in 1982. She commenced training as a GP in Bury in 1983, working in various medical specialties at both Bury and Fairfield General hospitals. Cheryl completed her training with Dr Graham Phillips & Partners at Greenmount Medical Centre in 1986. On qualifying as a GP, Cheryl joined the practice of Drs. Riley and Woodcock at Ribblesdale Medical Centre in Market Street, Bury. The practice moved to the new Townside site in 2010 from where, following a long and fulfilling career, Cheryl retired in August 2018. Always approachable, Cheryl firmly believed that the essence of general practice was to deliver good health care and to promote the wellbeing of the patients and families she was privileged to care for: to that end she devoted her career. When relaxing Cheryl enjoyed gardening, being with her family and socializing with friends. She liked reading novels, walking, going to the theatre and occasionally attending ballet and dance performances. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 25th at St Mary's church, Rawtenstall at 11:00am followed by committal at Accrington Crematorium at 12:20pm. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to Breast Cancer Now. Funeral director: Dawn Winfield for Fred Hamer Funeral Service, Rawtenstall.
