ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14 THE A590 TRUNK ROAD (SEG LANE/MAIN ROAD) [TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2021

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14 THE A590 TRUNK ROAD (SEG LANE/MAIN ROAD) [TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2021
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the A590 Trunk Road, in the District of South Lakeland, in the County of Cumbria, to enable the construction of a new roundabout at the A590 Cross-a-Moor, to be carried out in safety. The Order will:
a) impose speed limits on the following sections of the A590 Trunk Road:

i. a 30 mph speed limit on the eastbound and westbound carriageways, from a point 310 metres west of the A590/Seg Lane (U5125) junction, to a point 320 metres east of the A590/Main Road junction;

ii. a 10 mph speed limit on the eastbound and westbound carriageways (as described above). The 10 mph speed limit will apply for safety reasons through the works area, where traffic will be escorted by a highways maintenance vehicle.

b) impose an overtaking ban on the eastbound and westbound sections of the A590 Trunk Road, as described in a) i above.

c) ban all traffic from the following laybys adjacent to the A590 Trunk Road:

i. the eastbound layby, located 383 metres east of the Elliscales Roundabout;

ii. the westbound layby located 578 metres west of the Greenodd Roundabout.

d) ban all traffic from turning right from the A590 Trunk Road on to the:

i. Main Road (U5696);

ii. C5036 (classified road).

e) ban all buses from the westbound bus stop located 13 metres west of the A590/Main Road (U5696) junction. The bus stop will be temporarily relocated to a new position 80 metres east of the A590/ Main Road (U5696) junction.

f) ban all pedestrians from the following sections of the A590 Trunk Road:

i. the eastbound footpath located 9 metres east of the A590/ Seg Lane junction, to a point 7 metres west of the A590/C5036 (classified road) junction;

ii. the westbound footpath located 8 metres west of the A590/Main Road (U5696) junction, to a point 22 metres east of the A590/ Carley Lane (C5031) junction.

NB - Only one side will be closed at any one time. During scheduled works wide loads over 2.9 metres (10 feet) travelling eastbound and westbound on the A590 Trunk Road will be held at the signed laybys and will need to wait for a highways maintenance vehicle to escort them through the site.
Restriction a) i and Prohibitions b), c), d), e) and f) are expected to take place during a continuous period starting at 00:01 on Monday 6 September 2021 and ending at 06:00 on Saturday 30 July 2022. Restriction a) ii is expected to take place overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 starting Monday 6 September 2021 and ending on Saturday 30 July 2022.
However, works may start and continue during subsequent continuous periods, or between the same times on subsequent nights, until completed. Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the A590 Trunk Roads, and local roads will be well signed.
The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, winter maintenance or traffic officer vehicles. The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, from time to time, be indicated by traffic signs. The Order comes into force on 5 September 2021 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months. For further information contact
