IS it Shakespeare, or is it West Side Story?

All will be revealed when Feelgood Theatre present A Midsummer Night's Dream in Heaton Park, which starts tonight.

Radcliffe actor Richard Ashton, all 6ft 7inches of him, plays Oberon, King of the Fairies, in this open air show which is brought into the 1950s.

It features lovers on tandems, a classic Italian Laverda motorbike, some a cappella singing and a real donkey.

Richard adapted the play with Bury-born director Caroline Clegg. Audiences will remember him from previous Heaton Park shows, when he played Merlin in Arthur: King of the Britons last year and Van Helsing in Dracula the year before.

The company has just finished a production of Dennis Potter's Blue Remembered Hills in Heaton Park, in which Richard played the part of John.

The show runs until August 18. Audiences are advised to dress for the outdoors and bring a brolly: rain does not stop play!
